GPL and Apple App Store

An interesting analysis on Ars Technica:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/11/the-vlc-ios-license-dispute-and-how-it-could-spread-to-android.ars?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss

To be clear:
1. libpd and Pd are not GPL-licensed, and therefore are perfectly permissible to use on the Apple App Store, iOS, and - as the name of this group implies - everywhere. That goes for commercial open source software, proprietary software, the lot.

2. What's most interesting to me about that article is that it isn't necessarily a given that you can't publish GPL-licensed software on Apple's store. That could be good news. I think if it's a legal gray area, you may still want to err on the side of caution, but if you're a fan of free software as a tool, that's nonetheless a positive.

3. I still think it's a good thing that you can clearly publish GPL-licensed software on stores like Android's, and I'm puzzled that someone claims in that story that you can't, which seems not correct to me.

Anyway, I'll take care not to immediately shoot off my mouth and say the GPL and iOS are incompatible, in case that isn't the case.
